Internet has improved communication and information provision, but has also become a breeding ground for hackers and viruses. On a daily basis, countless attacks and instances of unauthorised entry into local system environments take place. Efficient security is of crucial importance, especially because of the sensitive information you are dealing with.

All-in security
Multrix offers you a package of products and services that help you secure your local system environment optimally, without the worries and without the need for time-consuming management activities. The package consists of the following components: 

• Firewall protection
• Secure Internet communication (VPN client)
• Anti-virus protection
• Backup facility
• RSA token-based security
• SSL.

Hardware and software licences, updates and upgrades, management, maintenance and helpdesk support are included.

Firewall protection
A firewall protects your local network against network attacks and unauthorised access. It checks and controls incoming and outgoing traffic by means of policies. We will install a firewall at your site and will take full responsibility of its management. This will relieve you of the following management tasks:

• IP configurations
• VPN configurations
• Policy management (incoming and outgoing traffic)
• Updates and upgrades of the firewall software
• Monitoring of hacking attempts and network attacks
• Firewall replacement in case of defects (within 48 hours in the Netherlands).

Multrix uses products by Netscreen Technologies: integrated security applications that are a combination of a firewall, Virtual Private Networking (VPN) and traffic management features. The hardware firewall offers bandwidth management so that it will not compromise the performance of the data communication line.

Multrix delivers two types of Netscreen firewalls: the 5XP Elite and the 25, which support a maximum of ten and twenty-five VPN tunnels, respectively.

Secure Internet communication (VPN client)
If you exchange sensitive data via the Internet, you can create a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection from the firewall. A VNP client is needed for this purpose. The firewall and VPN client create a virtual tunnel between both locations, and hackers will not be able to trace your communication. The VPN connection is ideal for communication with your servers. The number of VPN connections you can set up depends on the type of firewall (see firewall protection).

Anti-virus protection
Multrix installs anti-virus protection software (Trend Micro Officescan) on each desktop, laptop or server with an Internet connection within your local network. We will take full responsibility for the management. Trend Micro Officescan offers the following features: 

• Scanning and removal of viruses in files and applications
• Scanning and blocking of infected email messages, attachments and downloads
• Automatic virus update via the Internet
• Warning signal upon virus detection
• Notification to the recipient and sender in case of infected email messages.

Backup facility
Multrix provides a fully managed central backup facility and installs the required software at your site. This means you can create daily (24 hours a day) backups of your local data files to your central tape storage. By default, each user is assigned 3 Gigabytes of storage capacity.

After the first backup, only backups of modified or new information will be created on the basis of adaptive differencing technology. The advantage is that little bandwidth is required for this purpose. Backups are encrypted for secure Internet transfer.

Two-way verification takes place so that only authorised users are able to access the data.

RSA token-based security
Multrix provides RSA tokens for secure access to websites and (web) applications. Each user is provided with a token which allows access to websites or applications. Users can identify themselves by their user name and a custom password in combination with the token ID. Every 60 seconds, the secureID token will generate a unique, one-off ID. If a token is damaged, we will replace it for you.

With the digital secure server ID certificate, the visitors to your website will know they have come to the right location rather than a website hosted by somebody who is taking advantage of your good name. Secure server IDs are particularly useful for sites that ask visitors for input in the shape of address data, user names and passwords and the like.
